Frequently Asked Questions

I have a brown/black/blue/green/yellow/purple Stain. Which Treatment should I perform?
Jack’s Magic would not recommend performing a stain or scale treatment before you have used a Stain IDentification Kit.

My Pool Service Company performed a Stain IDentification Kit and told me which products to buy. Can I move forward with the treatment immediately?

The Stain IDentification Kit spot test may have worked even though your water chemistry was not properly balanced to perform a Stain ID. However, if your water chemistry is not properly balanced to the parameters listed in Step 1 of your Treatment Procedures, your treatment will NOT work.

It is extremely important for you to get your water tested from a local professional & ask for their advice, or use a website like poolcalculator.com to balance your water to the parameters on the procedure link before you move forward with the Stain Treatment Procedure.

My Stain Identification Kit showed more than one spot with positive removal of my stain. Which treatment should I do?

If your Stain IDentification Kit results in more than one positive ID, please select the treatment that you feel yielded the best removal of the stain, scale or discoloration.

For example, if the test areas for the Stain Solution #1 Treatment and the O2 Safe Shock and Stain Solution #2 Treatment both yielded results, but there was complete removal in the latter area, we would recommend you move forward with the O2 Safe Shock and Stain Solution #2 Treatment.

If you feel that two or more test areas were equal in removal, we recommend you move forward with the treatment for the test area that is closer to the top of the list below.

For example, if your test areas indicate equal levels of removal in the spot for the Stain Solution #2 Treatment and the spot for the Iron Scale Treatment, we would recommend the Stain Solution #2 Treatment as that is closer to the top of this list.

For Stain Solution #1 Treatment aka Iron Cobalt & Spot Etching Treatment

  • Pre-requisites:
  • – Positive reaction for Step 3 on the Stain IDentification Kit
  • – Water temperature above 65°F
  • – Ability to isolate or remove ionizers, mineral systems and chemical feeders (if applicable)
  • – Ability to turn off salt generators (if applicable)
